It’s a new command, so maybe I’m reading too much into it maybe supplementing the hand with a verbal command would be sufficient, though I really like not having to use voice. For example, if I move my hand to a high palm down to try to get him to poke up, he (understandably) goes to “down.” I’m just starting to teach “touch” and my pup seems confused when I offer a palm in anything other than a fingers-down (like, here’s a treat) orientation. I’ve been using a palm-forward, policeman “stop” hand signal for “stay”, and a palm-down, flat hand for “down” at a distance, and I’m wondering if I’ve made a mistake.
